Easy to cook – we always steam our rice with our veg steamer. All you have to do is put equal quantities of rice and water in the rice gadget (if you can’t find it just use a bowl that fits) and steam for about 40 minutes. Easy as that.

Where do we start with rice? There aren’t many Continents where you won’t find rice. Long grain white rice has less flavour than Jasmine or Basmati rice, so is used more as an accompaniment to dishes whose flavours you want to shine. It can also be flavoured itself.

Jolloff Rice (not to be confused with the common Isle of Wight surname of Jolliff!) is a popular Nigerian dish, another which varies from family to family.
