Description

Organic Chickpeas 350g ready to eat. A most versatile pulse. Known in Spain as Garbanzo these little protein balls are not only fantastically nutritious, but they bring a great flavour and texture dimension to a dish. They are very popular in vegetarian cuisine due to their protein value.

There are countless ways to use organic chickpeas in cooking. However the most famous way to eat chickpeas involves no cooking at all. HUMMUS. Arabic: حُمُّص ḥummuṣ Thought to have originated in Syria, although many Middle Eastern nations  would like to claim it. The lovely Sami Tamimi would swear it’s Palestinian. A perfect balance of chickpeas, garlic, good olive oil, lemon, tahini, salt. Always save some water from the jar to loosen it up to your liking. We also make a beetroot and walnut hummus in our deli, which is very popular. Hummus is one of those things that one day you can throw the ingredients together and they could come out perfect first time, other times is takes so much adjusting and some many teaspoons! And the better the ingredients, the better the hummus.

For a snack dry the drained organic chickpeas as well as possible on kitchen roll and mix with a little olive, salt and some spices of your choice. Either cumin, sumac, sweet paprika, garlic powder. There are many options. If you are having them as s pre dinner nibble think of your spices in relation to the other dishes you are presenting. This is also a great alternative to salted peanuts. Even Sarah could be converted.

One of our favourite soups is Leek and Chickpea. An old Jamie Oliver recipe that we’ve been making for decades. It is finished with a grating of parmesan and a drizzle of really good EVOO. We use Willy’s Extra Virgin Olive Oil, as it’s raw flavour is delicious. We use our own chicken stock when we make it for ourselves, for extra gut health or use Borough Broths Chicken Stock.

Another favourite dish of ours is Chickpea and Halloumi Couscous with Garlic, Lime and Mint. This is equally good as a main course or with goat merguez sausages or as a side to goat shoulder dishes.

We also make a chickpea apricot tagine for the deli, sometimes adding preserved lemons.

Organic chickpeas make a great source of flavour and binding agent when making vegetarian or vegan burgers with sundried tomatoes.
